Pre-natal Massage

by Elaine
(LA, CA)

I am at my 34th week with no complications (knock on wood). I am really having pain on my feet, hands (carpal tunnel) and specially my knees (feels like it ready to give ot and cannot handle the weight). I started at 95 lbs before pregnancy, 4"11 in height and I am now 131 lbs.

I have been having my massages until 7 months, and wondering if its safe to still have massage this late in the preganancy, even if it's just for my limbs (arms, thighs, knees, legs and feet).

Please advise. Thank you.

From a therapist

For a first time visit, it never hurts to ask your health care provider if it's okay. For the therapist, I strongly urge a doctor's note saying it's fine for the therapist's records. Pre-natal massages are amazing and very beneficial. Unless you have major complications, there is nothing wrong with getting a massage during any pregnancy.

Tip from a therpaist.

I'm a licensed MT in Nevada and as a safe measure get written permission from your OB before planning your massage. Remember to take the written okay with you to keep in your file.

A pregnancy with multiples is considered 'high risk' to a therapist and they should want to know that its okay with your doctor.

Hope this helps.

HI, Im almost 30week(twin boys. IM 5"2 and before pregnancy my weight was 110Ib now Im 147Ib. I get a massage every two weeks! My ob doctor said its safe if your pregnancy is doing well. I think you have nothing to worry about, but talk to your doctor about it anyways.

Ask a pro...

What does your massage therapist say? When in doubt, ask your OB. You wouldn't want to be having a massage that could possibly induce labor, especially since most twins come early to begin with.
