Has Anyone Had Gestational Diabetes With Twins?

by Jennifer

I am almost 29 weeks and my glucose came back high. Instead of a 3 hour GTT they just told me to go to perinatologist for diabetic teaching. Has this happened to anyone? How did everything turn out? Thanks

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 25 weeks. I pushed for the blood draw test as early as indicated (24 weeks) and had the follow up with fasting and at each hour after drinking that stuff times 3.
If you have a question why the doc didn't order the three hour one, you should ask. However, meeting with a specialist is the best thing to do. It takes a little while to apply what you learn to your diet and to educate those around you what you can have and what you can only eat in moderation.
As the pregnancy goes on and your placenta(s) grow, your ability to control your sugars goes down. At this point (29 weeks) I don't need medication but my doctor is following closely to decide if they need to start it.
Good luck.

Gestational Diabetes

I found at I had Gestational Diabetes at 19 weeks with my twin boys.
I followed a meal plan provided by a dietitian, and checked my blood glucose levels 4 times a day. I then had to be put on insulin, and closely monitored.
They boys were born at 36 weeks and 5 days at 5 lbs and 5 lbs 2 oz. They were healthy and had no problems with their sugar levels.
I believe me following the doctors instructions to a T was the biggest help ever. I also only gained 35 pounds with them since I followed the meal plan! Good luck. Its not easy, but it is do-able.
